GENEVA, Switzerland, January 21, 2025 – DuPont (NYSE: DD) announced today that MOLYKOTE® HP-300 grease has successfully met strict purity standards for hydrogen contact in accordance with ISO 14687:2019.
In collaboration with HyCentA Research GmbH, MOLYKOTE® developed an innovative lubrication testing protocol tailored to these standards. The grease was exposed to 700 bar of hydrogen pressure for several weeks, followed by an analysis of potential contaminants. The results confirmed that MOLYKOTE® HP-300 did not significantly contaminate the hydrogen, ensuring compatibility with critical hydrogen applications such as fuel cell stacks.
Pure hydrogen can easily be contaminated by materials it comes into contact with, including lubricants. Therefore, rigorous testing is required to ensure purity for both safety and performance. In hydrogen grades used for transportation applications, contaminants as low as 4 parts per billion can potentially compromise fuel cell integrity. This assessment confirms that MOLYKOTE® HP-300 is a reliable lubrication solution for hydrogen-exposed components, such as seals and threaded connections, helping to minimize contamination risks while maintaining system integrity.
Beyond its ability to preserve hydrogen purity, MOLYKOTE® HP-300 offers:
By reducing the risk of contaminants in hydrogen systems, DuPont™ MOLYKOTE® HP-300 supports the development of cleaner and safer energy solutions. The grease meets the strict requirements of the hydrogen industry, contributing to a more sustainable future.
