Products for trains and railways within Europe now have a new standard they must be approved according to: EN45545-2. This does not only apply to applications on the train itself, but all places associated with the train industry such as stations, signs etc.
The European EN 45545-2 is a special fire classification developed to ensure the safety of components and materials used for rail-based traffic, including trains, subways and trams. The standard contains a variety of product requirements (R1-R26) as well as three different hazard levels (HL1-HL3). Which requirements and levels need to be met depends on what the product will be used for, where in the train it will sit and how the train will be used, for example if they will travel through tunnels or if it contains sleeping cars.
